Barren Land.

Place  : Baghdad
Year : 1950

A Fashion Show At Iraqi House Fashion 1950.

Iraqi House Fashion, Is Still There?

This is one of the Iraqi House Fashion Show in 1950!
Yes, 1950, when women were abler to attend a fashion show as you see from the picture, most of the audience were women, this is a picture of a healthy country, when Iraqis were searching for sence of beauty, life & modernity.

At first look to this picture I didn't believe my eyes But , I felt sorrow how things are going on Iraq today, very frustrated with what's going here, Especially with women rights.

Let's go back live this black & white picture when Iraq was under kingdom regime, when the life was simple & when women were practicing their rights even for little part, apparently, they were practicing their right, & I can tell, when Iraq reached 1970 women had lived their golden time.

Where is the Iraqi house Fashion today? where are these shows? Can a woman attending such these places?

Iraqi House Fashion, But not anymore!
Where are those designers for fashion clothes? where are women rights???

Where is the women's voice in new Iraq?

Where is the new Iraq? Where is the FREEDOM & the DEMOCRACY???

Where is the glory of our culture?

I think our new government had buried everything related to the beauty & arts, just like their way to close theaters & night clubs, what else do you want to close?

Do you want to close people's life? Do you want to keep us in prisons? & beat & kill women, because you feel they don't deserve life?

Day by day, Iraq becomes a "barren land", though there is rain, but no life anymore!!!

Very sad. It is ironic that Iraq in the 1950s was more progressive than today's Iraq. Hopefully Iraq will change for the better.

There is little hope for the arts in Iraq with the Ayatollah Khomeini/Sistani Shia God squad government in charge of things, utilizing the Sharia Law clause in the Constitution, banning everything from statues to alcohol to music to interaction between men and women...

Or as Ayatollah Khomeini once said, "There is no fun in Islam." Or fashion, or music, or art. )))

Most likely any fashion and arts will occur, evolve to the point of being hidden away in the private sphere, similar to Iran, where all the wild stuff ))) takes place behind closed doors among the wealthy secular members of the professional class.

Despite the lack of artistic tolerance engendered in current
Iraq, it is good to see WEVA and you posting again, Freedom, and you have written a nice article, that deserves a bigger audience.

Hello Iraqi Mojo,

It is sad, Yes, But honestly I can't say it will get better, we all wish to get better, but when it comes to reality, nothing is there. in fact it gets worse.

But, I add my wish to your wish too, hopefully we can see a peaceful, beautiful, healthy Iraq someday.

Hello Mister Ghost,

Special thanks for your support from easternliberty blog.

Well, If this violation of freedoms will continue I don't think people will shut up!

It is the time that people should do something, should work to change this.

If they forbidding people from their simple rights, then; I think from my perspective crimes will spreaded, & people will sell alcohol from their houses like (under the table) as we say.

By they way, about the new look for our blog, it was a mistake, I'm sorry, I was trying to choose new template for our blog, but very soon you will see a new look for easternliberty blog:)

I hope our readers will like the new look!

Hello Freedom,
I'm sure your new blog look will be fantastic. )))

Perhaps you could write a post on what it's like to be a Christian celebrating Christmas in the new Iraq?

Here, oh the radio stations are filled with many playing Christmas songs and holiday tunes. One radio station even went all Christmas songs, 24 hours-a-day, right after Halloween.

I've wondered if there are Iraqi radio stations that play songs or have they been outlawed? )))

And have you ever heard Mary's Boy Child by Bony M?

Oh, I think you will like it:
