Hello WAVE & Freedom,
There is not many people who know about your site, Iraq has become passe and overexposed and there is compassion fatigue, there is no way to contact you, you ask too many questions in your posts ))), you are cautious about revealing too much information about yourselves, English is a second or third language for you... so there is a stilted feel about this blog.

But I don't want to discourage you, as it's a worthwhile subject to discuss women's issues in Iraq et al., as there are not many other blogs that do so.

Unfortunately women's rights in Muslim majority countries tend to lag far behind Western non-Islamic countries and even non Muslim Third World nations. Generally, it's a function of Sharia Law and tradition, but mainly Sharia Law. For instance, women in Israel are much more freer than females in surrounding nations, and the Jews like the Arabs have a long Mideast tradition, but there is no Sharia Law enshrined in their Constitution.

LOL, I just remembered Israel doesn't have a Constitution, so I'll amend my comment to say, Sharia is not enshrined in to Israeli culture, so the women are much better off.

WEVA and Freedom, there definitely appears to be a direct correlation between the application of Islamic Law and increasing fundamentalism and women's rights. For instance, back in the 1970s, when Iraq was less fundamentalist - before Saddam's later years - Iraqi women wore miniskirts. What would happen if an Iraqi woman wore a miniskirt these days in Sadr City?

Well, you two, keep at it, keep up the good work and let your views be known. I know it is not the easiest existence for you and likely sometimes you feel alone in the world and wonder, if anyone hears you, but the important thing is to continue forward.

It would be good to know one's thoughts, I'm sorry I couldn't write in past 5 days, my aunt passed away as I wrote that in my last article.
